Keeping health intact is a matter of challenging and at the same time, it is important also. Several reasons affect our health are – weather fluctuation, consumption of contaminated water, food, unhealthy diet practices, malnutrition and lack of physical exercise, etc. Most of the people suffer from acidity problems. Certain proven food habits, simple and easy tips will reduce acidity problems.

There is a saying in Sanskrit “Mitha bhuk; Hitha Bhuk” means – “Eat sufficiently but not too much; Eat what is required for good health”. Hence, what you eat, how to eat, when to eat matters a lot in maintaining good health. Intoto, we can say that our food habit plays a significant role in our life.

Comparing to our ancestors our health is too delicate. And at that time they used to do hard work and due to that physical exercise as well as their time tested food habit our ancestors were healthy. We are dependent on machines for getting our done, have varied our food habits. We are inviting various health problems (it might be a simple cough or a novel coronavirus)

Today, most of the people are suffering from acidity, gastritis problem. Whenever doctors treating patients they are not only giving medicine for the diagnosed problem but along with that – they are giving pills for acidity. And acidity is not a disease. Acidity is creating irritation, the tension in the mind of an individual during its existence. It is because it mimics many health irregularities some of them are – high blood pressure, headache, chest pain, back pain, sleeplessness, heart burning sensation, burning sensation in throat and stomach, stomach pain, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.

Acidity can be controlled by using certain proven food habits and with some simple and easy tips.

Here below are the 9 simple formulas for controlling acidity/gastritis:

Drinking warm water

Each and everyday morning after fresh up drink one or two glasses of warm water. It feels difficult to drink warm water in the morning. Follow this practice to 21 days and after that, it will become your habit.

Avipattikara Churna(powder)

It is an ayurvedic proprietary medicine used for treating hyperacidity, digestive problems including diarrhea, constipation, gastritis, heartburn, indigestion, and ulcers. Avipattikara churna possesses strong carminative, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that aid in curing imbalances related to pitta dosha. It is available in ayurvedic medical shops.

Take a glass of lukewarm water and add one tablespoon avipattikara powder to it and stir continuously so as to mix well in water and drink it for continuously 7 days in the morning at least one hour before food. After 7 days for some days don’t take this. One course for medicine is 7 days. We suggest maintaining the gap of 4-5 days on completion of one course. After that, you take one complete course. Continue this process course as it is. Take Avipattikara powder for a period of 3 months.

Cumin seeds (Jeera) Kashaya

Take 2 tablespoons of cumin seeds, clean it by pouring water and take a vessel put cleaned cumin seeds into it, add two glasses of water and it is to boil in the medium flame until two glasses reduced to one glass. After, with the help of strainer collect the jeera seed. Drink one glass of jeera warm juice without mixing sugar and milk. It gives relief some times. However, drink Jeera Kashaya continuously for at least 7days.

Ajowan(om Kalu) Kashaya

Take 1 tablespoon of Ajowan seeds, clean it by pouring water and take a vessel put cleaned Ajowan into it, add two and a half glasses of water and it is to boil in the medium flame until two glasses reduced to one glass. After that, with the help of strainer collect Ajowan. Drink one glass of Ajowan warm kashaya. It is also one of the good treatment for gastritis.

Ajowan Rasam

Our granny used to prepare Ajowan Rasam which is one of the healthy recipes to correct our digestive system. Put two tablespoons of cleaned Ajowan seeds in a vessel, add three-four glasses of water and keep it in the stove on medium flame, put salt, jaggery, turmeric powder, red chili powder to taste. Let it boil very well. After that boiling, turn off the stove. And this rasam is tasty as well as good for our health. It suits white rice and boiled(raw) rice. it is also served as a soup.

Milk – Buttermilk 50 – 50

Late P.S Venkatrama uncle Daithota suggested for me this recipe. Stir a half cup of hot, diluted milk and half a cup of buttermilk well. After mixing it will be thick. Drink this recipe without adding sugar or salt. And lie on the floor silently without any talk or chit chat for at least 30 minutes. In addition, it also gives a soothing effect on gastritis stomach ache.

Kokum Juice

Kokum, Garcinia indica, is a fruit usually we can see in the western ghats, Goa and it is growing in Dakshina Kannada, Kerala, etc. Riped kokum fruit outer layer or its skin is having medicinal great value. Our ancestors used to store kokum fruit’s dried outer layer in the airtight container. And whenever there is a problem of indigestion, stomach ache, headache they used to prepare juice by using kokum fruit skin.

Take a class of drinking water put one or two pieces of an outer layer of kokum fruit keep it aside minimum 8 hours, and later drink that juice by removing that fruit skin without adding sugar. It is also good to reduce high blood pressure too as explained by the legend moving encyclopedia in the plant Ayurveda Late P.S Venkatrama uncle Daithota.

Coconut Shell Charcoal dipped into the water

From the time immemorial our ancestors used coconut shell bowls and spoons to serve food, cooking, etc. Probably, this might be the reason for our grandparents, ancestors good health. Coconut tree’s each and every part is useful. That is the reason to call it “Kalpavruksha”.

We are regularly using steel vessels, bowls, and spoons. In other words, coconut shell’s usage is drastically reduced. Now it’s time for us to increase the usage of coconut shell spoons and bowls known for its health benefits. Today, coconut shell spoon and bowls are available in online stores too. But, without any polish, these are to be used in a natural way after cleaning with the help of a knife or sickle.

How to use a coconut shell to treat acidity?

We should prepare cleaned coconut Shell’s charcoal by using woodfire, through traditional wood-firing. coconut shell turns in to red color. It should be taken out of the wood fire. It should be dipped into the glass of pure, drinking water and cover with a plate. Set aside this for 15 minutes. We should separate the charcoal with the help of a strainer coconut shell. Drink that water. Follow this for 7 -14 days two times a day. It will give a sigh of relaxation from acidity, burning feeling in the stomach.

Desi Cow’s Ghee if not available Cow Ghee:

Whenever there is stomach ache due to acidity take cow’s pure ghee if it is very old it has great medicinal value but, it’s the smell is not good for some people it is not tolerable. However, you can use fresh ghee.

How to use cow ghee to treat acidity?

Take a half tablespoon of ghee lie or stretch out on the surface or cot and apply ghee with your hands around the umbilicus (navel) – this improves digestion and helps to bring deeper relaxation from acidity. In a clockwise direction gently glide (move smoothly) your hand over your stomach. Since food moves through the colon in a clockwise direction you have to glide in a clockwise direction. The clockwise circle always reduces the blockage.

As body nature varies from individual to individual, treatment, tips, recipes also differ. While treating patients’ even doctors can’t give the same medicine to all patients. As we know one size can’t fit all in the same way one has to observe and find out which one suits me? By that observation, only one can set their own healthy food habits, lifestyle.
